Football truly unites people like no other. Watching the opening game of the 2014 World Cup at the MU Student Center was a truly unique experience. There were groups of Africans, Iranians, Koreans and South Asians all watching and cheering on. I am a football naif so do not expect any technical analysis from me but even from a human point of view, what drama, what spectacle, what theatre. I really like the Guardian’s coverage though.

The brilliance of Neymar, the Croatian player pleading unsuccessfully with the referee, the folly of the Brazilian own goal, the passion of the crowd. As neutral man watching a neutral sport, one could ask for nothing more.
